13 to 15 Week Update

We have an office visit on 4/20/07 to check on the babies before the cerclage. Babies are great, growing well.

So, now we are preparing for the big cerclage. I am scared to death. So we arrive at Siena Hospital at 1 p.m. in the Labor and Delivery unit. We are welcomed by a very crabby nurse and are standing right behind a woman who is overdue with her 4th baby and having a c-section. They put us in the triage room. The nurses check us in and I get more blood taken.....I so love that! The staff decides at 13 weeks, I am too soon to monitor. So I spend a couple of hours on a gurney until Dr. Bohman heads over to say he’s ready. Now I’m having an anxiety attack over the anesthetic process...it will be a spinal block, which I’ve never had. So now I’m in an operating room, shaking and trying to breath. I feel like such a wimpy girl. This is SO overwhelming to me. I keep thinking how different this pregnancy is. Nothing like the girls. I’m just in awe as to how this experience is new. Chip cannot come into the O/R, so I’m alone on top of it. The spinal block goes well and before long I am numb from the waist down. Dr. Bohman talks to me through the whole process. He’s a great doctor and it’s much easier to make it through it. About 15 minutes later I am done and being rolled back to my gurney in triage. I stay there until 7 p.m. at night waiting for my legs to thaw out from the spinal block. It was not nearly as bad as I thought and my panic wasn’t warranted. The staff was great and we were quite the anomaly with triplets. There has not been a triplet delivery there yet. The hospital is so new there is no NICU, so we hope to make it to at least 32 weeks or we won’t be able to deliver there. Each nurse has a different guestimation as to when they will have a NICU. I leave Siena fearful as to where these babies will be born. We definitely WILL NOT go to Sunrise Hospital. What a dive! I learn that Summerlin Hospital that is 45 minutes away will be our next option if the babies are really early. I am telling everyone...I’m in it for the long haul. I want to go long and deliver at 34 weeks or later. The recovery from the cerclage has been much easier than I thought. It has only taken a few days to get back up to speed.

Chip and I purchased a used convertible crib and changing table on Craigs list. 1 down, 2 to go! We’ve also shopped for a few receiving blankets and unisex outfits. There is so much more to do to get ready....it is truly overwhelming.
